Mavericks
Tempe Friends Meeting House
Tempe, Arizona
Mavericks became a Chapter of AQG in 1997 with the goal of being a home for quilters and fiber lovers who want to work out of their comfort zone and try new things. Our typical number of member-attendees varies from 35-45 until our Canadian and Midwestern members return to Phoenix in the winter months, when attendance is boosted to 50-62.
Programs are planned for the next calendar year every October. These are posted on our website and info about each current month's program is emailed to members. Programs include an annual roundtable event, where three artists present various techniques in 20-minute sessions; presentations by professional artists such as painters and sculptors; and trunk shows by members. Each program has a facilitator.
Programs for 2020 include;
While not an AQG activity, there are periodic fabric-dyeing sessions at a member's home that members have a chance to participate. In addition, we have member challenges that are coordinated by the issuer of the challenge.
Every December, the Sojourner Center is the recipient of a carload of quilts and other needs as detailed on their website.
Dues are $15/year ($20 for new members or late renewals) to help with facility rental, group activities such as an ice cream social, and guest appearances. Mavericks does not offer retreats.
We meet on the third Wednesday of the month from 10:00am - 12:00pm. Tempe Friends Meeting 318 E. 15th Street Tempe, AZ 85281
